Daily Talker: Food Fight

It's the food fight heard 'round the world that ended with a Harvard professor's apology. It began when Harvard Business School associate professor Benjamin Edelman ordered takeout from the Sichuan Garden restaurant in Brookline. Edelman disputed the bill saying he was overcharged by $4. In an email exchange with Sichuan Garden, Ran Duan, a bartender who helps operate the family business, told Edelman the website prices were out of date and offered to fix the site and email him a new menu. But Edelman says he was entitled to a $12 refund under state law and threatened to contact 'authorities'. Eventually, the restaurant agreed to take half off the order. But the story has made national headlines and has exploded on the internet. Edelman now says he was "out of line" and "aspires to act with great respect and humility" but "failed to do so". He says he also plans to apologize to the restaurant in person.

Edelman has been called the "Sheriff of the Internet" and has taken on companies---large and small---many times in the past, including Facebook and Google. It is also worth noting he co-owns a $1.3 million condo in Brookline, according to town records, and charges as much as $800 an hour to research companies for investors, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

But not everyone is against Edelman. Consumer experts tell WBZ that Edelman makes a valid point, saying consumers have a right to know the exact price of an item they are purchasing.

Do you think the professor's apology is enough?
