Stolen Laptop Returned To Leicester Family, Photos Erased

LEICESTER (CBS) – Police have recovered the laptop stolen from a Leicester family, but the priceless memories that were on it are gone.

Last Saturday thieves broke into the Rigiero family's home. They escaped with TVs, cash, jewelry and other valuables. Worst of all, they stole a laptop.

That laptop contained photos and videos of Stacy Riel Rigiero's 7-year-old son, Maverik. He passed away in 2006 after battling cancer.

Now police say the laptop has been returned, but the hard drive was erased.

"The men and women of the Leicester Police Department are ecstatic that we have been able to return this laptop to the family," Leicester Police Chief Jim Hurley said. "The return of the laptop had been a top priority for the department along with apprehending the person(s) responsible for breaking into the home."

Police say along with the laptop, a TV and video game console were also recovered. Police are not saying how they got the electronics back, but they are still looking for the thieves.
