Family's Stolen Laptop Contained Photos Of Deceased Child

LEICESTER (CBS) - A family in Leicester is desperate to get back their laptop, after their home was burglarized. It's not the value of the computer that makes this a devastating loss, but rather the precious memories stolen with it.

Last Saturday thieves broke into the Rigiero family's home. They escaped with TVs, cash, jewelry and other valuables. Worst of all, they stole a laptop.

That laptop contained photos and videos of Stacy Riel Rigiero's 7-year-old son, Maverik. He passed away in 2006 after battling cancer. Now she says it feels like losing part of him all over again.

"They mean the world. They're all I have of my son. When you lose a child, you have no more pictures," Stacy told WBZ's Jim Smith. "It's a piece of my life; my life with him. It's a piece of our history together that I may never get back."

The laptop also contained the journal that Stacy wrote, chronicling her son's struggles with cancer.

"They mean the world to her," said Maverik's stepfather, Michael Rigiero. "She only has two videos of him as it is. We lost some stuff in a fire a couple years ago."

Maverik's little sister Edy is also feeling the pain.

"When I was little, I don't remember that much. So the pictures tell me a lot, and I can't really know that much about him when they're gone."

The family came home just as the burglars were driving away. Police are looking for a Cadillac, possibly beige, brown, or gold.
