Malaria Patient Discharged From MGH

BOSTON (CBS) – A Massachusetts General Hospital patient originally suspected to have Ebola has been released from the hospital, officials said on Friday.

Hospital officials said a patient who doctors determined earlier this week had malaria, not Ebola, was discharged from Mass General on Friday morning.

Doctors said the patient had no fever or other symptoms over the last 24 hours.

Though the patient did not have Ebola, Mass General officials said the situation helped test the hospital's preparedness in the event an Ebola case is presented in the future.

"This situation has given us the opportunity to see firsthand the benefits of the extensive preparations that have been underway throughout the hospital for the past several months. We are very proud of the way the MGH community has responded," the hospital said in a statement.
