Kobe On Breakfast With Rondo: Not A Recruiting Trip

BOSTON (CBS) -- Kobe Bryant said his Thursday morning breakfast with Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was "delicious," but it wasn't a recruiting trip.

The Lakers star and Celtics point guard created a bit of a stir on Thursday when the two put aside the Celtics-Lakers rivalry and enjoyed some breakfast together in Boston. But Kobe, who has always had a mutual respect for Rondo, said it was just a couple of friends off the court enjoying some grub and chatting about hoops.

"We get along extremely well," Bryant said Friday after L.A.'s shootaround at TD Garden, ahead of the Lakers' first and only visit to Boston this season. "We see the game in a similar fashion in terms of our aggressiveness and mindset. It was good to get together with him.

"It was a basketball geek conversation," said Bryant.

Rondo will be a free agent this summer, but Kobe wouldn't say much when asked if he has envisioned a Rondo-Bryant backcourt in L.A.'s future.

"No, I haven't thought about having any future teammates before," he said sarcastically.

Bryant and Rondo, the only two players left on their respective teams from the 2008 and 2010 Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals, now find themselves on rebuilding teams. When asked if the two discussed the current state of their franchises, Bryant again used a little humor to add some light to their rather bleak situations.

"Like a mutual intervention type thing?" Bryant asked with a laugh. "No, not really. We just talked about the game, we talked about the league. We talked about good old memories of playing in the series against each other, stuff like that -- different strategies and things they tried to do against us and things we tried to do against them."

The Lakers' loss to the Celtics in Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals -- a 131-92 beatdown by Boston -- still haunts Bryant, even though the L.A. exacted their revenge two years later.

"They were the bullies on the block," he said of the 2008 Championship Celtics. "They beat us up."
