Revolution Midfielder Lee Nguyen Named To MLS Best XI

BOSTON (CBS) -- Fans of the New England Revolution know that midfielder Lee Nguyen is among the league's top players, but now he can officially take his spot next to the best in MLS.

Nguyen was named to the MLS Best XI on Tuesday, an annual acknowledgement of the best 11 players in the league. He is the first New England player to earn the honor since Shalrie Joseph in 2009.

Nguyen had a career season for the Revolution this year, earning team MVP honors after scoring a career-best 18 goals to go with five assists in 32 games. He scored nine game-winning goals in New England's 17 victories, setting a new club record and equaling the second-best total in MLS history. The Revs were 14-1-2 during the regular season when Nguyen had a goal or an assist.

Nguyen, who is a finalist for the league MVP award, has gone on to add two goals and three assists in four games during the MLS Cup Playoffs, helping lead the Revs to MLS Cup for the first time since 2007.

The Revolution will face the L.A. Galaxy in MLS Cup 2014 on Sunday, December 7.
