Daily Talker: Structured Recess

Recess is often the highlight of a child's day at school. It's a chance to get outside and play with friends. But a new format is not sitting well with some students and their parents. According to Wicked Local, structured recess began last year at West Elementary School as a pilot program and continued this school year. Instead of free play, where children could do whatever they wanted, they must chose what game they want to play before going outside. Studies have shown structured recess can increase physical activity, reduce bullying, and improve conflict resolution. But parents are concerned the school day is already so structured and free play allows children to make their own decisions. How would you feel if your child had to participate in structured recess?
