Tom Brady On Patriots GameDay: 'I'm Blown Away By How Our Defense Is Playing'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Tom Brady has seen some very good defenses, both ones he has played with and ones he's played against, but the Patriots' quarterback has been "blown away" by what the current New England defense has been doing over the last few months.

With Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner leading the way in the secondary, the Patriots' defense has not been a fun group to go against. They've shut down some of the best receivers in the game, causing headaches for a few future Hall of Fame quarterbacks along the way.

"I'm blown away by how our defense is playing," Brady told Steve Burton in an interview for Sunday's Patriots GameDay on WBZ-TV. "The way they're suffocating these passing games has been pretty unbelievable; how they can take some of the best players -- guys I look at every week and say 'they do this well and they do that well' and then I see them play our team and they're not able to do that, it's pretty awesome."

Just last week, Brady had a front row seat as Revis and Browner held Detroit's Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate to just eight receptions on 21 targets.

"You can put those guys on certain players and you don't hear from those guys much. It's a great testament to what those guys are all about," he said of the Revis-Browner duo.

With their secondary locking down receiving threats downfield, the Patriots' pass rush has had extra time to attack the quarterback. That has allowed players like Rob Ninkovoch (team-high six sacks) and newcomer Akeem Ayers (three sacks in four games with New England) to really put some pressure on the opposition.

"When you have guys who can rush the quarterback and cover like we do, it makes it really tough," said Brady, quickly noting that it's up to his offense to match that defensive intensity. "We have to get ahead and force [opponents] into those games, and then see if they can make plays on defense, which is pretty hard to do."
