Patriots Release Special Teamer Don Jones
BOSTON (CBS) -- In a bit of a surprising move, the New England Patriots released special teamer Don Jones on Friday.
The 24-year-old Jones was claimed off waivers from Miami in September, and played in nine of the first 11 games for the Patriots, seeing most of his action on special teams. In his time on the field for New England, Jones registered one defensive tackle and seven special teams tackles.
Asked about Jones' release on Friday, head coach Bill Belichick said there's a chance Jones could be signed to New England's practice squad if he clears waivers.
Jones originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick by Miami in 2013 out of Arkansas State. He played in all 16 games as a rookie with the Dolphins and led the team with 11 special teams tackles.
