Report: Patriots Ink Matthew Slater To 2-Year Extension
BOSTON (CBS) -- Matthew Slater will be gunning down the field for the New England Patriots' special teams unit for the next couple of years.
The Patriots signed Slater to a two-year contract extension that will run through the 2016 season on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
"I'd love to have 53 guys like him," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told reporters at his Wednesday morning press conference, though he would not confirm the extension.
Slater has been New England's special teams captain since 2011. He was drafted by the Patriots in the fifth round of the 2008 draft out of UCLA, and has been named to three Pro Bowls during his career.
Slater is very active in the community, winning the 2013 Ron Burton Community Service Award, and has served as New England's player representative for the NFL Player's Association since 2012.
