Boxford Truck Fire Destroys Six Cars On Board

BOXFORD (CBS) – Six cars were destroyed early Tuesday morning when a truck carrying them caught fire in Boxford.

The Boxford Fire Department said firefighters arrived on scene at Interstate 95 around 12:55 a.m. They found a car transporter with 10 vehicles on board on fire.

Six of the cars were engulfed in flames and totally destroyed. Four others had smoke damage and one of those cars had its bumper and trunk area burned off.

In addition, the rear wheels of the trailer were engulfed and melted off.

It took firefighters almost two hours to control the situation and the northbound side of I-95 at Route 97 was shut down while crews knocked down the flames.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to the cab of the truck. The trailer was a complete loss, but the truck was drivable.

Investigators believe the fire started near the trailer's rear brakes.

All of the cars were taken off the trailer individually, put onto flatbeds and taken to a car yard in Lawrence, firefighters said.
