Passenger Killed, Driver Arrested After Hyde Park Rollover

BOSTON (CBS) – A Walpole man is facing several charges including motor vehicle homicide and fourth offense drunk driving after a Hyde Park crash that killed one person.

Massachusetts State Police responded to a single-car rollover on the Enneking Parkway in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the preliminary investigation shows that Jeffrey Mason, 42, of Walpole, was driving a 2003 Honda Accord when he lost control and the car rolled over near the intersection of the Turtle Pond Parkway.

A woman, who police have not released the identity of, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the passenger in the car.

The road remained closed until about 5 a.m. on Saturday while police reconstructed the scene and cleaned the area.

Mason was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating recklessly under the influence of liquor.

He was also charged with fourth offense OUI, speeding, marked lanes violations, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of personal injury.

The Walpole resident was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital he suffered in the crash. He was scheduled to be monitored by police at the hospital until being brought to state police barracks.

Mason will be arraigned on the charges Monday morning, police said.
