Daily Talker: Equal Playing Field?

A member of the Dennis-Yarmouth girls field hockey team is getting a lot of attention this morning. It's not for his athletic abilities, though. It's because he's a boy. Max Allen is the goalie for the team and his presence on the field yesterday versus Acton-Boxboro drew a lot of criticism from parents, but he had every right to be there. It's a battle high school sports officials have tested before. The MIAA has challenged the issue all the way to the Massachusetts State Supreme Court in the past, and lost. Last year, one of the stars on Concord-Carlisle's football team was a girl. Under Massachusetts' own version of Title 9, the equal rights amendment, if she could play on the gridiron, then boys can play field hockey. Do you think it is fair that boys can play on high school field hockey teams in Massachusetts?
