Price Chopper Supermarkets To Be Renamed 'Market 32'

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (CBS) -- Big changes are coming to Price Chopper supermarkets.

Parent company Golub Corporation announced Tuesday that all of its grocery stores will be modernized and renamed "Market 32" over several years as part of a $300 million rebranding effort.  There are 134 Price Chopper locations in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

The first new Market 32 will be built in Sutton, Massachusetts starting on Wednesday. More rollouts will begin in the spring, and the company said it expects more than half of all supermarkets to be converted within five years.

Shoppers will find expanded food service options, more products and a greater focus on customer service, the company said.

"Market 32 represents the next leap forward for our company," Price Chopper Chairman Neil Golub said in a statement. "We have evolved from the Public Service Market to Central Market to Price Chopper by responding to customers' changing needs over time and Market 32 is the next natural progressing for us."

Price Chopper programs like AdvantEdge cards, fuel programs and other coupons will still be incorporated into the new stores, according to the company.
