Dog Attacks 88-Year-Old Woman In Manchester, NH

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) – An elderly woman who was attacked by a dog says she will not pursue charges against the dog's owner.

Nellie Borun, 88, was walking around her neighborhood on Normand Street Monday afternoon when she was bitten by a boxer.

"I didn't have time to think anything, it happened so fast," Borun said.

Borun told Manchester police the dog had been on a leash, but the young girl walking it either let go or lost control of the leash. The boxer ran at Borun and attacked her.

"She was bitten several times before the dog was taken back into custody by the adult owner. Once the adult gained control of the dog, she and the juvenile left the area," police said in a statement Tuesday.

Borun's son Mark took her to the emergency room to get treatment for several dog bites.

Police asked for the public's help tracking down the dog's owner, but the Boruns told WBZ-TV that the owner came to visit them Tuesday morning and apologized.

The Boruns would not reveal her name. They said the woman came forward after seeing the story in the news and offered to pay for her medical bills from the attack.

"She just left, she didn't stop and say how I feel," Borun said. "I say as an owner why didn't you stop and ask what happened to me?"

The Boruns said the woman did not know her dog had attacked Nellie. They accepted the apology and told WBZ they would not press charges against her.

"We don't want to press charges, it was an accident," Mark Borun said.

The dog's owner later told WBZ she will be putting the dog to sleep because of the attack.
