Two Arrested In Norwood Smash-And-Grab

NORWOOD (CBS) -- Police arrested two people Wednesday night who are accused of breaking into and stealing from an automotive parts store in Norwood.

A Norwood police officer was filling up his cruiser at a gas station at about 11:20 p.m. when he heard glass smash at a nearby Advance Auto Parts on Route 1. The officer then saw someone crawl into the store through the hole in the door and reported a break-in in progress, according to police.

Other officers responded and chased down the man, who was found with a cash box containing a significant amount of money. A backpack found on the man contained a face mask, gloves and other "burglarious tools," police said.

Police then said they arrested a woman in a red get-a-way pickup truck, who was frantically trying to make a phone call when she saw police approaching.

Peter Anastacio Lopes, a former Advance Auto Parts employee, was expected to be arraigned Friday. The Braintree 34-year-old is charged with breaking and entering, breaking into a safe and resisting arrest, among other charges.
