Dougie Hamilton: Bruins Winning Ugly, But Everyone Stepping Up Sans Chara

BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton was once again a guest of 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak program.

Torey Krug is normally the regular guest, but because he's on the mend and working his way back from injury, Hamilton -- who has been an admirable fill-in the last two weeks -- gets the nod.

Last Friday, Hamilton taught us we can call him Doug, Dougie or even Douglas, and today we learned why his team is 5-1 without top defenseman and captain Zdeno Chara.

"Everyone as a group is stepping up. There's been some pretty ugly parts, but some character wins the last two games; in the third period we played really well and were able to win. I think it's all of us just trying to step up and play better and take advantage of the opportunity."

With Chara out with a knee injury, Hamilton has two goals, eight points and a plus-5 rating -- all while averaging close to 25 minutes per game. He's spent some quality time alongside Dennis Seidenberg, and has liked what he's seen from the other young defensemen in Zach Trotman, Joe Morrow and David Warsofsky.

"It's been fun to play with Seids and have that challenge," Hamilton said of fellow blue liner Dennis Seidenberg. "I think the other guys that have got called up have played really well, so it's really nice to see those guys doing well."
