Haggs: Pastrnak Dominating AHL, Bruins Could Bring Him Up For A Look

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Bruins first-round pick David Pastrnak is tearing it up in the AHL, and may soon find his way to the big show.

Through nine games with the Providence Bruins, Pastrnak has three goals and seven assists and is a plus-10 in his time on the ice.

This all comes after an impressive preseason and solid reviews throughout Boston's rookie camps. So how soon can we expect the 25th overall pick in the NHL?

"I would think at some point they're going to take a look at him, just given how he's played at in the AHL and how dominant he's been," CSNNE's Joe Haggerty told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Thursday morning. "Seth Griffith has looked good in spots but they're still looking longer-term at a right wing to play with David Krejci and Milan Lucic.

"I would expect at some point he'll get brought up and at least get a look for a few games. They have nine games whenever they want to take a look at him. Injuries, slumps and other things happen over the course of the season," said Haggerty. "It was obvious the first time I watched him at developmental camp that he was pretty close to NHL-ready and would be able to help the Bruins pretty immediately. We're seeing that in the AHL where he's dominating guys older than him."

The Bruins have no shortage of young players on their roster at the moment, and many of them are on the blue line in place of the injured Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Kevan Miller. Of all the young defenseman eating up shifts for Boston, Haggerty has been most impressed with Joe Morrow.

"I saw him in the preseason, a little bit last year, and he's that wild stallion type defenseman that Claude Julian needed to break," said Haggs,"He was doing things he couldn't do in Claude Julien's system to be successful, kind of like how Dougie Hamilton was undisciplined. But what you see now is he knows the system and knows when to pick his spots…. He has all the skills; he can skate, has a big shot he can use from the point and he sees the ice well."
