Galvin Re-Elected Massachusetts Secretary Of State
BOSTON (AP) — Secretary of State William Galvin has easily won election to another term as Massachusetts' top elections official, defeating Republican challenger David D'Arcangelo.
The 64-year-old Galvin is the longest-serving statewide elected official in Massachusetts. He first won the office in 1994.
As secretary of state, Galvin oversees the state archives, the lobbyist division, the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the state public records division. He also oversees the office's securities division.
D'Arcangelo is a city councilor in Malden. He said during the campaign that Galvin has failed to keep up with swiftly changing technology. D'Arcangelo vowed to bring electronic balloting to Massachusetts.
Galvin says the state should stick with paper ballots, arguing that other states that adopted electronic balloting eventually reversed course.
