Socci: Browner's Attitude And Edge Having Positive Impact On Patriots Defense

BOSTON (CBS) - Patriots radio play-by-play man Bob Socci called in to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show Monday morning to provide his analysis of Sunday's win over Denver.

Socci spoke in great detail about the impact Brandon Browner is having with the team. Browner is a physical specimen. He stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 220 pounds -- hardly the measurables often seen in the defensive secondary.

After serving a four-game suspension and missing the next two weeks with an ankle injury, Browner has played in New England's last three games and Socci has really taken note of his infectious play.

"You run the risk -- as we saw yesterday -- of the contact because of the way [Browner] plays. I'm watching other games around the league, and there are cornerbacks who play very passively who get called for those kinds of penalties downfield with the way the game is officiated now," said Socci.

"One of the things about Browner is he not only exerts his physicality, but he's found a way to get into the heads of opposing receivers. There were a number of instances yesterday where after the play was over, or after the series was over, Broncos players were very frustrated and engaged in some verbal sparring, with Brandon Browner front and center right there for the Patriots. This guy brings an edge and we saw some of it in preseason -- he even got into it once with a Patriots assistant coach because he was giving Kenbrell Thompkins such a hard time with his physical play during one training camp drill.

"I think his attitude and his play on the field has really carried over into this defense. I hate to use the term because I think it's overplayed in sports, but they're playing with a lot of swagger in that secondary and I think Brandon Browner has been a big part of that."
