Robi On The Road: Haunted Mansion Looking For A Good Samaritan

ABINGTON (CBS) – Barrett's Haunted Mansion in Abington has been horrifying people for 23 years.

Once you get inside, your head is constantly on a swivel.

You never know what will sneak up behind you.

"We've had people pass out in here. We've had to call an ambulance," Mary Barrett Costello, also known as "Scary Mary," told WBZ-TV.

In fact, Costello said one woman was so frightened, she curled up in a ball and refused to get up until all the house lights were turned on and someone in "civilian clothes," not a costume, came in and calmed her down.

The Haunted Mansion is filled with gory scenes, horrifying sounds and terrifying characters who roam the halls.

But they don't just frighten people. They also scare up money for charity.

Barrett's Haunted Mansion supports several local organizations, including the Quincy Animal Shelter where money from Barrett's goes to valuable supplies to help pets.

"They do a great job they utilize our volunteers and they give us wonderful funds that help us buy vaccines and food and other things we need for the animals," Kit Burke, the director of the shelter, told WBZ.

The generosity doesn't end there.

This year, Barrett's Haunted Mansion is asking people to write them letters, nominating a do-gooder or Samaritan in their city or town.

One deserving person will receive $10,000 which they will be asked to "pay forward" to their favorite charity.

Those letters can be sent to Costello at mbc@barrettsrg.com
