Cespedes, Pedroia & Bradley Jr. Named Gold Glove Finalists

BOSTON (CBS) - Coming off a World Championship in 2013, not many fans in the region thought the Red Sox would bottom out in 2014.

The Sox finished dead last in the American League East for the second time in three seasons this past year, and ranked in the bottom half of Major League Baseball in runs scored.

It was certainly a sub-par season for the team offensively, but as the 2014 season wraps up, three Red Sox players have been nominated for their defensive prowess.

Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., second baseman Dustin Pedroia and left fielder Yoenis Cespedes have been selected as AL Gold Glove finalists.

It's the first nomination for both Bradley Jr. and Cespedes, as Pedroia is trying to make it two in a row, which would be his fourth overall.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday November 4th at 7pm ET on ESPN2.

Gold Glovers are voted on by each manager and up to six coaches on a given team's staff. They cannot vote for players on their own team. Last year, Rawlings added a sabermetric component to the Gold Glove Award selection process. The SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) Defensive Index comprised of approximately 25 percent of the overall selection total, with the managers and coaches' votes continuing to carry the majority of the voting weight.
