Revolution's Lee Nguyen Named MLS Player Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) -- After netting a pair of goals last week, New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen has been named the MLS player of the week.

Nguyen led the Revolution to victory on the road against the Houston Dynamo last Thursday, scoring a pair of second-half goals to turn a 1-0 halftime deficit into a 2-1 Revolution win. He netted the game-winner in the 87th minute, his 17th goal of the season. Nguyen's first goal of the game, which came in the 65th minute, is up for MLS Goal of the Week.

A front-runner for the league's Most Valuable Player award this season, this is Nguyen's first player of the week honor this year. He is the first Revolution player to earn MLS player of the week this season.

Nguyen leads the league with eight game-winning goals, and his 17 tallies are tied for fourth in MLS. Going back to the Revs' 3-0 win over Colorado on July 30, Nguyen has 11 goals and four assists in the Revs' last 12 games, including three multiple-goal games.

Nguyen and the rest of the Revolution conclude the MLS regular season on Saturday, October 25, when they host Toronto FC at Gillette Stadium. Following Saturday's match, the Revs will enter the MLS Cup Playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
