Lowell Police Seek Hit And Run Driver

LOWELL (CBS) – Police are seeking the public's help locating the driver of a vehicle that hit and seriously injured a pedestrian in Lowell.

Lowell police said that Sunday at about 7 p.m. a witness saw a dark colored minivan hit a person walking on School Street near Western Ave.

The impact of the crash sent the pedestrian airborne, seriously injuring the 52-year-old Lowell resident.

Though police said the minivan stopped briefly, officers said the vehicle then left the scene on School Street towards Broadway Street.

According to police, the victim of the incident was initially taken to Lowell General Hospital before being transported by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

The minivan will likely have damage to its front end, bumper, hood and possibly windshield, police said.

Anyone with information on the hit and run is asked to call the Lowell Police Department at (978) 937-3200, or the Crime Stoppers tip line at (978) 459-8477.
