Rosevelt Colvin: Patriots Offense Getting Harder To Defend
BOSTON (CBS) - New England eked out a 27-25 win over the Jets yesterday evening on Thursday Night Football, the third win in a row for the 5-2 Patriots.
The defense has been steady all year, and without Jerod Mayo last night came away with some big stops -- especially in the second half.
The offense, however, has been a different story.
To start the season it was the Julian Edelman-Rob Gronkowski show, but lately, more players have been integrated into the offense. With three straight wins, you can't argue with the results.
Former Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show that the team, especially the offense, is still a work in progress, but you've got to like the direction they're heading.
"You've got to have four or five guys that can make plays. Look at Peyton Manning in Denver. That ball goes to five or six guys. You've got a running back, and five wide receivers to potentially catch a ball -- so nobody [on defense] can go to sleep. The Patriots offense the first couple of weeks, if you just covered Edelman and Gronkowski you pretty much shut the offense down. Brandon LaFell is stepping up. Danny Amendola is waking up. Gronkowski is getting healthy," said Colvin.
"Guys are making plays for him. Young guys, new guys are waking up and stepping in and making plays. That gives opposing defenses something to deal with. I think that's going to be a huge benefit as they continue to move down the line the rest of the season."
