Patriots-Jets Thursday Night Football LIVE Blog: Folk 58-Yard FG Attempt Blocked, Pats Hold On For 27-25 Win

BOSTON (CBS) -- Follow along for all the updates from the Patriots-Jets game on Thursday Night Football!

Final: Patriots 27, Jets 25

This one came down to a 58-yard attempt by Folk, but it never had a chance. Chris Jones blocked it at the line, and the Patriots escaped with their fifth win of the season.

That's very fitting, seeing how the Jets beat the Patriots last season on a Chris Jones penalty on a field goal attempt at the end of the game. Good for Jones, who had a very solid evening overall.

It wasn't pretty, but it was a win. And a division win at that. Now the Patriots have 10 days off before they take on the Chicago Bears.

We'll be breaking this one down throughout the evening, so stick with CBSBostonsports.com, tune in to three hours of postgame coverage on 98.5 The Sports Hub, and you can see Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's press conferences live on Patriots 5th Quarter on myTV38.

4th Quarter, 1:06: The Jets will start their drive on their own 12 yard line.

Folk's career long is 56-yards. Let the fun begin.

4th Quarter, 1:16: The Jets will get the ball back with just over a minute left and no timeouts.

This game is far from over.

4th Quarter, 1:55 and counting: Vereen picked up a few yards on the ground, so the clock is ticking. But the Patriots will have to eventually punt, facing a 4th-and-9.

4th Quarter, 2:00: The Jets are out of timeouts, but the Patriots are facing a 3rd-and-13 when we return from the two minute warning.

4th Quarter, 2:29: It's Danny Amendola's night.

After the onside kick pinballed around a few Patriots, Amendola pounced on it and the Patriots take over.

4th Quarter, 2:31: Patriots 27, Jets 25: It's been four years since the Jets converted a two-point conversion, and that streak will continue.

After Smith hit Cumberland over the middle for a touchdown, the Jets went for the tie. Smith had Amaro open in the end zone, but overthrew him.

More of the same issues for the Patriots D on that drive. They couldn't stop the run (this time it was Chris Johnson doing most of the damage), and they couldn't get off the field on third down. The Jets converted on two more third downs, including Smith's touchdown to Cumberland.

And onside kick is likely upcoming, and if the Patriots get the ball back they'll try and run out as much clock as they can. The Jets have just one timeout remaining.

4th Quarter, 7:49 -- Patriots 27, Jets 19: The Patriots have added to their lead, and it was Danny Amendola who broke the Jets' D.

Facing a third-and-goal on the New York 19, Brady went over the middle to Amendola, who had Antonio Allen all turned around and made a nice acrobatic catch. What a great moment for Amendola, who had a reception wiped out two plays before by a Brandon LaFell holding penalty. It's Amendola's first touchdown of the season, and just his fourth reception.

Even Rex Ryan couldn't believe it, ripping off his headset and kicking the air.

Edelman actually had another drop to start the drive, but made up for it with a 14-yard reception on a third-and-5. Gronk also had a big reception, hauling in a 24-yard pass from Brady to get to the New York three-yard line.

4th Quarter, 10:51 The Patriots D forced another punt, their third straight, and will get the ball in New York territory after a bad punt.

Smith went looking for Decker over the middle after returning from his time on the sideline, but Revis was able to get a hand in and break up the play.

4th Quarter, 11:20: And Smith is back after sitting out just one play. Michael Vick ran for five yards on his only play under center.

4th Quarter, 11:42: Geno Smith was having a good night for the Jets, but it might be over.

Smith took a low hit by Chris Jones after a first down pass to Jeff Cumberland, and hit the ground in pain afterwards.

4th Quarter, 13:01: Julien Edelman IS human, and it led to another Patriots three-and-out.

Brady had Edelman over the middle for a first down on 2nd-and-10, but the pass bounced off his finger tips for a drop. That's not something we've seen too often out of Edelman.

4th Quarter, 13:30: Now the Jets go three-and-out, giving the ball right back to the Patriots.

Chandler Jones blew by his D'Brickashaw Ferguson on 3rd-and-5 to get to Smith for New England's third sack of the evening.

The Pats will take over on their own 34 to start the drive after a three-yard punt return from Edelman.

3rd Quarter, 0:44: Another three-and-out for the New England offense.

Brady couldn't connect with Gronk on first down, Vereen picked up six yards on the ground on second down, and then Brady's pass for Amendola on third down was broken up by Antonio Allen. Now we'll ponder why Brady threw to Amendola on third down for the next 20 minutes.

Marcus Cannon was in at left tackle for the drive, and got beat on third down. We'll see if he's back out there the next time the Patriots get the ball.

3rd Quarter, 1:37: It took nearly three full quarters, but the Patriots have finally forced the Jets to punt.

That wasn't without them picking up a first down, but the Patriots defense stepped up by sacking Geno Smith on a 2nd-and-10, and then Dont'a Hightower brought down Powell a few yards short of moving the chains on the ensuing 3rd-and-15.

3rd Quarter, 4:10 -- Patriots 20, Jets 19: The Patriots take the lead back thanks to the foot of Stephen Gostkowski.

The Pats picked up some key first downs thanks to Julian Edelman, who did it with a 10-yard grab on a 3rd-and-3 and then picked up another first one an 8-yard run on an end-around. He got tossed around on the end-around, but bounced right back up -- as we're used to seeing with No. 11.

The drive stalled out when the Patriots got deep New York territory, and they had to settle for three.

3rd Quarter, 8:58 -- Jets 19, Patriots 17: The Jets start the second half off with a very impressive drive, and find the end zone for the first time tonight.

Chris Ivory capped off the 11 play, 80 drive with a one-yard touchdown up and over the pile at the line. He continues to run with authority, breaking runs of 17 and 13 yards on the drive. He's up to 101 yards on 18 carries.

Darrelle Revis is having a lot of issues sticking with Eric Decker on slants over the middle. An 18-yard catch by Decker on 3rd-and-12 set the Jets up at the New England 8-yard line, and Ivory did the rest with a seven-yard catch and his one-yard run.

The Jets are up to 167 rushing yards already. If you didn't think the Patriots would miss Jerod Mayo, that should change your mind.

The Patriots offense has their work cut out for them.

Halftime -- Patriots 17, Jets 12: The Jets are playing keep away, but the Patriots still take a lead into the locker room.

New York had the ball for 22 minutes in the first half, but had to settle for four field goals due to a "bend don't break" Patriots defense.

The Patriots added three points to their lead on their final drive of the half, benefiting from an Antonio Allen pass interference on a deep throw for Danny Amendola. That set New England up in the red zone, but they were quickly pushed back due to a Jordan Devey personal foul penalty.

Devey didn't like T.J. Barnes giving Brady a little shove after he threw the ball away, and gave Barnes a shove of his own. That cost the Patriots 15 yards, and possibly four points, but it was nice to see some fire from Devey.

The Patriots ended up outgaining the Jets 208-196 in the half, but New York is out-rushing the Patriots 124-35. Yes, they miss Jerod Mayo over the middle.

We'll see what kind of adjustments they make on defense, and if they can slow down the Jets rush attack.

One final note: Brandon Browner has been on the bench since the first defensive series.

2nd Quarter, 1:01 -- Patriots 14, Jets 12: The Patriots defense came up with a couple of big stops, and forced the Jets to settle for their fourth field goal of the evening.

Ivory was stuffed on a second down run, and then Smith overthrew Nelson in the end zone on third down with good coverage by Logan Ryan on the play.

The Patriots will have just over a minute to add to their lead. The Jets get the ball to start the second half.

2nd Quarter, 2:00 -- The Jets are in the red zone again.

A 62-yard kickoff return by Walt Powell got them start on the right foot, with Ivory and Smith picking up five yards each on a pair of runs. Smith's scamper came on 3rd-and-5, and Jamie Collins couldn't shove him out of bounds before the first down marker (the homer in me says he was short and it was a bad spot, but we'll keep the homer in me buried for now). To make matters worse, Smith took out a Gillette Stadium attendant on the play.

Ivory then picked up six yards and nine yards on back to back runs, and the Jets have the ball at the New England 16 at the two minute warning.

2nd Quarter, 4:22 -- Patriots 14, Jets 9: Another Brady to Vereen touchdown has the Patriots back on top, though this one was much shorter than the first.

The Patriots marched 80 yards down the field on 10 plays, with big receptions by Edelman, Gronk and LaFell. Edelman got everything started with a nice 16-yard sideline catch. Brady then hit Gronk over the middle for 17 yards on 3rd-and-7, keeping the drive alive. The next play, he hit LaFell on an in-cut for 23 yards.

After the Jets declined an inelligble receiver penalty, Vereen broke out a 17-yard run on a quick snap by Brady to set the Patriots up in the red zone. Brady scramble and took a very awkward slide/dive/fall rather than getting hit (it goes in the books as a sack for New York), but two plays later he hit Vereen from three yards out to put the Patriots back on top.

This is the first regular season multi-touchdown game for Vereen, who had three scores against the Houston Texans two seasons ago.

Now we'll see how the defense does with a little bit of rest.

2nd Quarter,7:52 -- Jets 9, Patriots 7: The Jets are dominating and dictating this game right now, but only find themselves up by three points. The Patriots have to feel pretty lucky about that.

But after two straight three-and-outs by the offense, the Patriots D is clearly gassed. They gave up three more third down conversions, and the Jets are 4-for-7 on third down.

New York marched down the field, eating up 6:18 with a 12-play drive, and settled for a 46-yard field goal from Folk.

The Patriots offense needs to do something here. And by something, I mean stay on the field for longer than 25 seconds. Your defense is begging you.

2nd Quarter, 14:10: And we have yet another three-and-out for the Patriots.

Brady got three yards on a first down pass to Gronk, then four yards on a short pass to Edelman. He had all the time in the world on 3rd-and-3, but overthrew Brandon LaFell as he streaked down the field.

End Of 1st Quarter -- Patriots 7, Jets 6: A 27-yard return by Danny Amendola was wiped out by a Brandon Bolden hold on special teams, setting the Patriots up at their own nine-yard line.

A Brady pass to Gronk went for three yards before time ran out in the first quarter.

The Jets had the ball for 12:24 in the first quarter, compared to New England's 2:36, but have just six points to show for it. They're out-gaining the Pats 137-88, but again, have just six points to show for it.

1st Quarter, 0:19 -- Patriots 7, Jets 6: The Patriots are lucky the Jets have only managed to put six points up on the board after their first two drives.

Smith hit Decker with a beautiful pass over Revis on a 2nd-and-9, which went for 24 yards down to the New England 37. Chandler Jones sacked Smith on the very next play, but that was negated by a holding penalty on Brandon Browner. Browner is not only shaking off some rust, but he's also coping with life in the new NFL.

The Jets had the ball in the red zone again, but an offensive hold pushed them a little further back, and a Jace Amaro drop on 2nd-and-19 all but killed the drive. Smith went Amaro's way again on third down, but the tight end was out of bounds. Smith has actually looked pretty good so far, with the Amaro drop his first incompletion of the game.

Folk nailed a 47-yard to pull the Jets within one, so the Patriots better have something better than a three-and-out up their sleeves.

1st Quarter, 5:41: A three-and-out for the offense, and a bad punt by Ryan Allen. That's not something we've said much this season. The bad punt that is; we've seen plenty of three-and-outs by the offense.

Brady went to Gronk on first down, but his throw was a little too high. Gray picked up six yards on a second down carry, running with some authority, but Vereen couldn't haul in Brady's third-down pass thanks to a good hit by corner Darrin Walls.

Allen then booted it off the side of his foot, with the ball going out of bounds at the New York 25 for a 40-yard punt.

1st Quarter, 6:24: Danny Amendola has touched the football!

The little-used receiver returned his first kickoff of the season, a 27-yard return to the New England 30.

Jonas Gray is now lining up with the offense. He played well in his limited time during the preseason, so let's see what the back has to offer when things count.

1st Quarter, 6:29 -- Patriots 7, Jets 3: The Jets put a pretty good drive together, but came up short of finding the end zone. A Nick Folk 22-yard field goal cut New England's lead to 7-3.

The New England D struggled on third down on the drive, giving up a 29-yard completion to Cumberland from Geno Smith on 3rd-and-5 and a 15-yard run by Chris Johnson on a 3rd-and-1. Smith also picked up 15 yards on a pair of runs.

Revis was on Eric Decker for the first drive.

1st Quarter, 13:31 -- Patriots 7, Jets 0: The Patriots offense wasted NO time exploiting that Jets secondary, finding the end zone just 1:29 into the game. Brady went hurry-up on the Jets, and needed just four plays to put up seven points.

A nice catch and run by Brandon LaFell picked up 24 yards on a 2nd-and-6 play, and two plays later Brady went deep to Vereen, who made a nice diving catch for a 49-yard touchdown snag. There were no Jet defensive backs in Vereen's zip code on the play.

Opening drives don't get much better than that.

1st Quarter -- 15:00: The Jets won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.

Brady and company will get the ball to start, and hopefully they can put together an opening drive that ends in points.

Ty Law was out representing the Patriots for the coin toss. For the Jets: Tight end Zach Sudfeld, who was cut by the Patriots early last season.

8:08 p.m.: Some of the greatest Patriots of all time are on hand tonight for Ty Law's ceremony at halftime.

Check out this photo the team just tweeted out:

Not a bad collection of Patriots, with Andre Tippett, Lawyer Milloy, Law, Troy Brown, Deion Branch and Otis Smith posing with Robert Kraft.

7:45 p.m.: The rain is pretty much gone at this point, but a wet football will still likely be a factor in this one.

Because of that, receiver Julian Edelman was out extra early catching some soggy passes from the coaching staff. He had them dip the football in water before sending it his way.

It must have been a strange feeling for Edelman to catch a ball and not have three guys hitting him shortly after.

7:04 p.m.: Both Bryan Stork and Dan Connolly are inactive for the Patriots, which means the Patriots won't have the offensive line that's been keeping Tom Brady upright the last two weeks. Get ready for an O-Line of Nate Solder, Jordan Devey, Ryan Wendell, Josh Kline and Sebastian Vollmer.

Tackle Cameron Fleming, running back James White, wide receiver Aaron Dobson and corner Malcolm Butler are also inactive for New England, but Brandon Browner was not on that list. So the hard-hitting corner should be out there for the first time as a Patriot.

Newly promoted running back Jonas Gray is also active for the Patriots. He's a 230-pound back, and with some soggy field conditions he could play a big role in this one.

6:35 p.m.: The tarp is off the Gillette Stadium field, and the countdown to football has begun.

The showers that soaked most of New England are making their way out of the area (though a few pop up showers are expected throughout the early parts of the game), and players have taken the field for their pregame stretches and warmups.

Believe it or not, the sun actually made an appearance just a short time ago:

The football world will have their eyes on Foxboro tonight, as the Patriots and Jets meet for a Thursday night showdown on national TV. Though it appears the 4-2 Patriots have righted the ship over the last couple of weeks and the 1-5 Jets are in a month-long tailspin, we're usually in for some competitive football whenever these two division rivals meet.

While the Patriots suffered a pretty big loss on offense in running back Stevan Ridley (who was officially placed on the IR earlier today), Tom Brady should have a field day against a very bad Jets secondary. Brady is a perfect 6-0 as a Thursday night starter, with his two most recent midweek wins coming against the Jets. He's 10-3 overall against the Jets at Gillette and 18-5 overall against New York, with 32 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

But we all know what Brady can do. The biggest question is whether or not he'll have time to do what he does. Dan Connolly and Bryan Stork, both key components to the recent turnaround of the New England offensive line, are both questionable after suffering concussions in the last week, and their absence will put more pressure on another makeshift line against a tough Jets pass rush.

On defense, eyes will be on Darrelle Revis. The corner felt a little spurned when the Jets balked at a reunion over the offseason, and is looking to exact a little revenge on his former team. There's been a lot of chatter about Revis possibly lining up as a receiver and sticking it to Rex and Co. by hauling in a Brady touchdown pass, but that situation seems highly unlikely.

But then again, crazier things have happened on Thursday Night Football:

Stick with us throughout the night for all the updates from Gillette, and full reaction and analysis following the game. You can hear all the action on 98.5 The Sports Hub and watch the game on WBZ-TV. The Hub will bring you three hours of postgame following the game, and you can catch Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's postgame press conference on Patriots 5th Quarter over on myTV38.
