Big Temperature Changes Headed Our Way

81 in Boston yesterday? True story. It's a safe bet that this is the last time we'll see 80s until Spring …so if you like the warmth, hopefully you were able to get outside yesterday and enjoy it!

In term of today's forecast...there have been a few minor adjustments since my post yesterday. The timing of the rain has sped up a bit. Expect showers to ramp up to steadier pockets of rain from west to east from late morning into the afternoon. The evening commute will be wet with areas of rain, perhaps an isolated rumble of thunder and localized ponding and puddling of water on the roads. Keep in mind the roads will be extra slick in spots where leaves have fallen already. Take it slow.

The Pats game still looks wet, especially for those tailgating prior to kickoff.  There are some indications that the heaviest axis of rain will push through during the first part of the game, allowing for a drier second half.  You'll want the poncho nonetheless.

Much colder air will arrive to New England on Sunday. So after a remarkably warm stretch the past few days…highs will only be in the lower 50s on Sunday. It's also worth mentioning the wind will be fairly strong this weekend challenging rowers even more for the Head of the Charles Regatta.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Gonzalo is headed toward Bermuda, and conditions on the island are likely to deteriorate as early as tonight. Rainfall amounts of 3-6" along with damaging wind and major coastal flooding from storm surge will cause significant damage as the storm makes its closest pass to the island around midday Friday.

Any impact here at home should be confined to our outer coastal waters where seas will build 7-12' Friday night through Saturday. Mariners should plan carefully and cautiously for any trips on the water in the coming days.
