Neighbor's Call Saves N.H. Man Pinned Under Car

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) -- A Manchester, New Hampshire resident is lucky to be alive after a car pinned him to the ground.

Juan Velazquez says his brother Johnny was working on the car in the backyard of his home Friday morning when the jack slipped and the car landed on his chest.

"He stayed under the car for more than 20 minutes," said Juan.

A neighbor heard Johnny's pleas for help. At first she tried to move the car but couldn't. She called 911.

"We pulled up to the scene, the neighbors were calling us over," said Manchester Fire Lt. Bob Beaudet. "We saw the man trapped under the car, initially he wasn't moving or anything. I went to check for a pulse, he said 'get me out of here' so we did."

According to Manchester Fire Lt. Michael Gamache, the last time somebody was pinned by a vehicle in Manchester the victim passed away because there was nobody around to hear his cries for help.

In this morning's accident, firefighters were able to lift the car in 90 seconds.

The victim had injuries to his chest and leg and has been released from the hospital.
