FXFL's Boston Brawlers Getting Ready To Kick Off Season

BOSTON (CBS) --  If you can't get enough football, or tailgating, there will soon be a new team in town.

The Boston Brawlers will debut later this month, as the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) -- a new developmental league dedicated to training highly competitive pro football prospects, coaches and referees -- begins its inaugural season.

In addition to Boston, the league includes franchises in Brooklyn, Omaha and Florida.

The Brawlers begin their season on October 8 when they visit the Omaha Mamoths, followed by another road game against Brooklyn on October 15. Boston will play their two home games at Harvard Stadium, and will debut at home on October 24 against the Florida franchise.

Their goal isn't just to give fans an exciting to team to watch on the field, but a fun family experience throughout.

"The Boston Brawlers will feature exciting, wide-open, fast and physical professional football with a talented roster of top college players from the nation's elite programs and conferences – all playing under the lights at the historic Harvard Stadium," team President and General Manager Doug Reffue said in a release. "Fans can enjoy an entertaining evening of football in an affordable, fan-friendly environment.  As a developmental league, fans will get to know our players up close and personal and then be able to follow their careers and their dreams in the exciting world of pro football."

The Brawlers are currently in the middle of training camp in Omaha, so their roster isn't set just yet. They'll be led by head coach Terry Shea, who was head coach at San Jose State and Rutgers before an eight-year NFL career as a coordinator. Shea, a college quarterback at Oregon, most recently did consulting work for quarterbacks entering the NFL draft, working with recent first rounder selections Robert Griffin III, Blake Bortels and Matthew Stafford.

Players in the league who are currently in training camp include former New England draft pick Jon Halapio (sixth round pick in 2014 out of Florida) and former New York Jets pick and Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd. Newburyport, MA native and former Merrimack quarterback Joe Clancy is also in camp. He was named the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2013 after throwing 48 touchdowns passes for the Warriors.

Rosters are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

Tickets are on sale now and range from $10 to $40, and fans are welcome to tailgate prior to the game. For more information on the Boston Brawlers visit the team's website, and click here to purchase tickets to their upcoming games at Harvard Stadium.
