Flynn On Toucher & Rich: Patriots Thoroughly Out-Coached On Monday Night Football

BOSTON (CBS) - Sports Hub personality Mike Flynn joined Toucher & Rich in studio for the 7am hour to break down the Patriots' embarrassing 41-14 loss on Monday Night Football to the Chiefs.

Flynn laid out many reasons for the disaster.

Defensive Coaching

"Have you ever seen Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia get so out-coached? Kansas City did whatever they wanted to do. They looked clueless on the screen pass to Jamaal Charles that went for a touchdown. The Chiefs were in third-and-5 and schemed a play where they had Rob Ninkovich on Knile Davis on the outside. Ninkovich loses his jock, falls down and gets beat. They had Jerod Mayo on Dwayne Bowe one play. Then you had stretch runs with designed cutbacks that sliced the backside of the offense. You can go on and on. A couple weeks ago in Miami the Patriots physically got beat, but last night they looked clueless at times. They're always chasing. Always behind. It just seemed like Andy Reid was always one step ahead formationally and was showing the Patriots things they've never seen."

Rotating The Offensive Line

"I don't know that I've ever seen this. Not that it wasn't warranted, because nobody was playing well. You have two new starters in, then Sebastian Vollmer gets pulled, and than he's back in. Nate Solder gets pulled and then he's back in the game. Cameron Fleming is out, and then Ryan Wendell gets back in -- I've just never seen that."

Offensive Play Calling

"You only have three receivers active for the start of that game, and I think l ike 17 or 18 plays early they're running out of the shotgun. They only ran seven times, averaged 3.5 yards but they busted some seven, six yard runs. In the running game there needs to be some attrition there. If you want to establish the run you're gonna have a couple two yard runs, maybe a no-gainer. You don't just wash your hands of it, and the runs you do are out of the shotgun, which I definitely hate because it doesn't set a tone. Do what you did in the Minnesota game. It's not always pretty. You have two rookie starters on the line, let them get their legs under them and not let them get teed off."

Lack Of Physicality

"You can look at that schedule and take it for what it's worth, but through four games they've gotten their asses kicked. Absolutely handed to them. Since I've been here I have not seen that. I've seen them lose games, but two out of four games you've really gotten your ass handed to. I haven't seen that. You can make the case offensively it's been three out of four games. The Oakland game they weren't very physical. When you strip it down to scheme and personnel, three of the four games were against teams that aren't really any good. I don't think Miami is any good. I think the Chiefs are maybe a little better than I thought, and you've gotten rolled. I'm not saying the season is over, but this tells me something."
