Allston To Get New Commuter Rail Stop
BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Martin Walsh have announced that the city's Allston neighborhood will get a new commuter rail station as part of the state's $260 million Massachusetts Turnpike project.
The planned new "West Station" would be a stop on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Worcester Line. Officials made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at the Beacon Park Yards, which are owned by Harvard University.
The MBTA plans to develop part of the 22-acre site, which was once a freight rail terminal, into a new train maintenance facility.
The Interstate 90 project will add electronic tolls, straighten the highway and replace a nearly half mile long stretch of structurally-deficient viaduct from the mid-1960's. It will also open up about 50 acres of developable land.
