Police Investigating Stonehill College Sexual Assault
EASTON (CBS) – Police are investigating a reported sexual assault on the campus of Stonehill College Sunday morning.
A female student told campus police she was walking along a pathway near the McPhaidin Library when she was attacked. The woman described the suspect as a man with strawberry blond hair.
"It's unsettling," said college senior Michelle Barry. "It's horrifying."
The incident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
"It's usually a generally safe campus," said college senior Evan Cheney. "There's not that many issues."
The frightening incident comes in the wake of several other sexual assaults on campuses including Worcester State University, Curry College and Massasoit Community College.
There were also attacks on Stonehill's campus last year.
"I feel like it happens everywhere," said junior Paige Marshall. "We need to keep working on it as a community clearly."
Campus police are investigating the incident along with the Easton Police Department. In addition, Massachusetts State Police officers were on the campus to process the scene overnight.
"The health and well-being of victims in cases of sexual assault is always our top priority," Stonehill College said in a Sunday statement.
"Victims are offered a variety of resources, counseling, medical, alternative housing options, and academic accommodations. We have expanded patrols on campus and will be sharing more safety reminders with our students."
