The 8 Most Embarrassing Injuries In Sports

BOSTON (CBS) - As long as humans continue to participate in sports, there's going to be injuries -- some more embarrassing than others.

These are the 8 most embarrassing of the bunch.

Stephen Tulloch

The impetus for this article, Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch injured himself on Sunday after sacking Aaron Rodgers and trying to forcefully imitate the Discount Double Check while jumping into the air.

Upon landing, Tulloch winced over in pain. We learned later that the 29-year-old suffered a torn ACL and is out for the season. Whoops.

Next time, Stephen, a simple high five will do.

Bill Gramatica

Bill, the brother of the more-famous Martin Gramatica, is remembered alright, but for all the wrong reasons.

As you can see in the video above, the Cardinals were taking on the Giants in mid-December 2001. The game was tied 0-0, and the left-footed Gramatica nailed a 43-yard field goal to put the Cards up 3-0 with 7:42 to play.

Despite the routine nature of the play, Gramatica jumped for joy and ended up, like Tulloch, injuring ligaments in his knee.

Gus Frerotte

Another famous celebration gone wrong involving the Giants, journeyman quarterback Gus Frerotte strained his neck in 1997 and reportedly got a concussion after head-butting the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium wall following his own rushing touchdown.

As a Patriots fan, I've concluded that there's just something about bad luck when you play the Giants.

Sammy Sosa

Sammy Sosa, known for chasing Roger Maris' home run record with Mark McGwire in 1998, and pretending not to speak any English when Congress prodded him about steroids seven years later, also makes the list. . . for an injury sustained while sneezing.

Yes, sneezing.

Sosa sprained a ligament in his lower back and even went on the disabled list after two violent sneezes led to back spasms.

Baseball players.

Milton Bradley

Famous hothead Milton Bradley was called out at first base on a close play with 10 games left to go in the season in 2007, a year in which the Padres finished just one game out of the Wild Card.

Perhaps they would have actually made the postseason if not for Bradley's ways.

In a crucial series with the Rockies in late September, Bradley confronted first base umpire Mike Winters following the aforementioned close play at first. Manager Bud Black came out of the dugout, raced over to the skirmish to get in between the two, but in the process Bradley fell over, tearing his ACL.

Former MLB pitcher John Smoltz once burnt himself while ironing his shirt.

He was still wearing it.

Let that sink in.

Adrian Beltre

Embarrassing, yes. But this next one might also be the most painful on the list.

While playing for the Mariners in August 2009, Beltre took a shot to the groin on a ground ball from Alexei Ramirez of the White Sox.

"My testicle got the size of a grapefruit," Beltre told the Boston Globe.

Beltre went on the 15-day disabled list to wait for the swelling to subside.

Joel Zumaya

Tigers pitcher Joel Zumaya missed the 2006 ALCS because of a sore wrist, caused by playing too much Guitar Hero.

You can't make this stuff up.
