Shane Vereen Talks Offensive Frustrations On Gresh & Zo

BOSTON (CBS) - Patriots running back Shane Vereen appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak show Tuesday afternoon to discuss the offense and the frustrations through three weeks.

Quick passes, particularly screens, have been a staple of this offense for some time now. Zo asked the fourth-year pro about how close the offense is to sparking a big play with the screen.

"We're getting close, we're getting better," said Vereen, who went on to say that screens will lead to big plays and that they're one or two parts away from having them work. "We're so close to having big plays and big plays will help our offense tremendously."

Big play capability is sorely lacking with this offense right now, something Shane Vereen feels personally responsible for to help fix.

Vereen went on to say the first few weeks have been very frustrating for the competitors on this offense.

"We know how good of an offense we can be when things are going right, when things are clicking, and we're executing the way that we should. So when that's not done over the course of a game, a quarter, a half -- whatever it may be -- you're frustrated as a competitor."

The frustration isn't always a bad thing though, as Vereen pointed out, "It adds motivation to us during the week in practice."

The Patriot running back also touched on the defense when Gresh and Zo asked him about standout defensive end Chandler Jones. Vereen replied by talking about how much energy Jones brings every day.

"Chandler is one of the funniest guys on the team. Hands down," Vereen said, "It brings an energy about him to the practice field every single day."

Looking forward to next week's Monday Night Football matchup in Kansas City against the 1-2 Chiefs, Vereen talked about Arrowhead Stadium and the problems it can cause with communication.

He said that they will be working on non-verbal communication all week at practice to help get everybody to be on the same page and "be able to communicate effectively for four quarters."
