Two Fallen Officers Names Added To Mass. Law Enforcement Memorial
BOSTON (CBS) – The names of two Massachusetts police officers were added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Boston on Saturday during a ceremony to honor fallen officers.
Officers from across the state, including more than 230 Ride to Remember bikers, gathered at the State House for the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial vigil to honor the names of those etched in the stone memorial.
This year, two names were added, including MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, who was killed during the hunt for the Boston Marathon bombers.
The other name added was Officer John Lynch, who died back in 1944.
Lynch was a Boston Police officer who was viciously attacked and beaten back in 1936. He died from his injures a few years later.
"I feel it's an obligation to remember lives and honor of spirit of officers killed in line of duty from Mass," said retired police chief, Ned Merrick.
Tom Cabral, who brought his granddaughter to the event to honor her uncle Bobby, still recalls the night he got the call about Bobby.
"It hurts just as much as I got phone call to know he is not with us. My granddaughter never met him, only in pictures," Cabral said.
