Chandler Jones Named AFC Defensive Player Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) -- After a beast of a weekend in Minnesota, Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Jones did it all for the Patriots in Sunday's 30-7 win over the Vikings, finishing with eight tackles, two quarterback sacks and five quarterback hurries. He also blocked a field goal attempt and returned it for a 58-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving the Patriots a 10-point swing and a 24-7 lead just before halftime.

It was a big bounce back week for Jones, who struggled in the Patriots' season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins. Jones now has 12 tackles on the season, his third in the NFL.

After hearing about the award, Jones took to Twitter and passed along the honors to the entire Patriots defense:

Wednesday's honors are the first weekly award for Jones in his career, who was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month in November 2013, and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month in September 2012.

The last time the Patriots earned an AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor was Week 10 of the 2011 season when Andre Carter tied a team record with four sacks against the New York Jets on November 13, 2011.
