Carver Man Charged With Entering Rockland Home Drunk, Cooking Corn

ROCKLAND (CBS) – Rockland police arrested a Carver man early Wednesday after he allegedly entered a home, cooked several ears of corn and attempted to punch the homeowner who confronted him.

Officers were called to a house on Sunnybank Ave. at 1:40 a.m. after the homeowner called 911 to report that a man broke into his house and was still inside.

Upon arrival police found John Dalton, 69, of Carver, inside. Police described him as "clearly intoxicated."

Police determined that Dalton entered the house through an unlocked door that led to the kitchen.

The homeowner told officers he was awaken by loud noises coming from the kitchen. When he went downstairs to find out what was going on, the man allegedly found Dalton in the kitchen cooking ears of corn on the stove.

When confronted by the homeowner, Dalton allegedly threw a punch at the man and a struggle ensued. Neither man was injured during the scuffle.

Dalton was arrested for breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, as well as assault and battery. He was arraigned in Hingham District Court.
