Wisconsin Man Charged With Double Shooting At Danvers Motel

DANVERS, Mass. (CBS/AP) — Two people were hospitalized and one man arrested after a late night shooting and standoff at a Danvers hotel.

The shooting at the Knights Inn was reported at about 11 p.m. Wednesday and drew the response of a SWAT team.

Police say one victim had been shot in the upper thigh and one in the knee, and both had lost a lot of blood and were "screaming in pain." The men, a 39-year-old and a 45-year-old from Tennessee, were transported to Beverly Hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Just before midnight police arrested Jonathan R. Alequin, 27, of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Hotel management told guests to lie on the floor to avoid getting shot during the incident.

Alequin told police that he acted in self-defense because the other men threatened to beat him.

Alequin was arraigned Thursday in Salem District Court on two counts of assault with intent to murder, carrying a firearm without a license and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
