Krejci On Gresh & Zo: 'Looking Forward To Next Few Years In Boston'

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins announced a six-year contract extension with center David Krejci last Thursday, and with training camp right around the corner and the regular season drawing near, Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak had the 28-year-old on their show Tuesday afternoon.

While the thought of becoming a free agent may have sounded enticing to Krejci, his main priority was staying in Boston.

"My main thing was to stay here in Boston. I've been here a few years and I'm glad to sign for six more. I'm happy and looking forward to the next few years in Boston," said Krejci.

The extension will keep Krejci on the dot for Boston through the 2020-21 season. His salary comes with an annual cap figure of $7,250,000, making him the highest paid Bruins.

Zo wonders if he feels any added pressure with the big payday.

"I'm just gonna do my thing. I'm the highest paid guy on the team now, but it's going to change next year. I'm not worried about it. I'm just gonna go out there, do my thing and try to be better every game. I can't control things I can't control," said Krejci.

After winning the Presidents' Trophy for having the best regular season record, the Bruins were unceremoniously bounced in the playoffs by the rival Canadiens, something Krejci would like to forget about altogether.

"It was disappointing. But it is what it is. It's a new season now and we're all excited to get it started. Hopefully we have a good regular season and make a run at the playoffs."

Krejci led the Bruins in scoring in the 2013-14 campaign with 69 points, his first team scoring title, netting 19 goals (sixth on the team) to go with his team-leading 50 assists. He finished with an NHL-best plus 39-rating.

The 28-year-old has skated in 504 NHL games – all with Boston – amassing 110 goals and 268 assists for 378 points with a combined plus-97 rating. In seven postseasons with Boston spanning from 2008-14, Krejci has played in 93 games notching 29 goals and 48 assists for 77 points with a plus-28 rating.

Krejci was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in the second round, taken 63rd overall.
