Fall River City Councilor Claims Mayor Threatened Him With Gun

FALL RIVER (CBS) – A Fall River City Council member said he felt threatened when the city's mayor pulled out a gun during a late night meeting, while the mayor has a different version of how things played out.

City councilor Jasiel Correia said that in August, he and Mayor William Flanagan were meeting around midnight inside Flanagan's SUV discussing Correia's participation in a recent mayoral recall petition.

That's when Correia claims the mayor pulled out a gun, put it on the dashboard and said "I never leave my house without this."

"It was borderline criminal in a situation where it was an attempt to intimidate me," Correia told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe.

Flanagan, however, has a different version of how the evening played out.

The mayor said Correia was asking about Flanagan's gun and added that he was interested in applying for his own permit. Flanagan said the weapon, which is registered, was holstered at his waste throughout the conversation, and added that he offered to write a letter of recommendation if Correia was interested in applying for a license to carry.

"He did see the gun on my waistband because he did point it out. He said 'You have yours?' I said 'Yes I do have mine and I have a license to carry,'" Flanagan told Tunnicliffe.
