Moving Up: Castillo Set To Play For Pawtucket On Tuesday

BOSTON (CBS) -- With the Portland Sea Dogs' season now over, outfielder Rusney Castillo is moving up the Red Sox' system and will join Triple-A Pawtucket for the International League finals beginning Tuesday.

The Sea Dogs fell to the Bighamton Mets in Game 5 of their Double-A Eastern League semifinals on Sunday afternoon, with Castillo playing all nine innings for the first time since joining the Boston organization. Castillo went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double, run scored and an RBI as Portland's leadoff hitter.

In four games with the Sea Dogs, Castillo went 5-for-14 with four runs scored and two RBIs, striking out just once.

Castillo, who signed a seven-year, $72 million deal with Boston in August, is expected to make his major league debut at some point this season.

"I don't want to make too much out of the number of at-bats he's had already, but just talking to those who have been in the ballpark during games played, (Castillo) looks to be an exciting player," Boston manager John Farrell said Sunday afternoon.  "He just needs at-bats. The plan is, at some point, for him to come to us."

The 27-year-old Castillo hit .324 in 2011 and .332 in 2012, his two best seasons in Cuba.
