Officials Investigating Possible Tornado Or Microburst In Ipswich

IPSWICH (CBS) – Massachusetts Emergency Management officials are investigating whether a microburst or a possible tornado struck the town on Saturday.

Three storms, which included rain and strong winds, hit the town starting at 4 p.m., according to police.

The storm left 1,200 customers of the town's 6,800 without power as of 9 p.m., police said. The storms downed several trees and damaged several homes, police said.

Lighting struck the police radio system partially damaging it.

Also, two women were struck by lighting at Crane Beach leaving them with critical injuries.
