Keller @ Large: Winners, Losers Evident In Market Basket Battle

BOSTON (CBS) – There is much still to be determined following the sale of Market Basket to Arthur T. Demoulas. But several winners and losers are already evident, according to WBZ's Jon Keller.

Though Arthur S. Demoulas lost the battle for control of the supermarket chain, he will walk away from the deal with a significant amount of money. Whether or not Arthur T. emerges a winner will be determined by his ability to restore company profitability.

But Keller says there are several clear-cut losers already. Among them are politicians like Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Gov. Deval Patrick, who stayed on the sidelines until recently.

"That is a private dispute as far as I can tell among private family members in a private company," Patrick Initially said.

"(Workers) have it entirely within their power to stabilize the company by going back to work," Patrick then added about two weeks ago, in a statement that Keller believes squandered leverage at the time.

On the flip side, Keller added that politicians like democratic treasurer candidate Barry Finegold who took a stance and rallied behind the workers came out of the dispute as winners.

Also coming out victorious were the Market Basket employees, who Keller said showed what power ordinary people can wield when they stay united.
