New Government Site Helps Drivers Keep Track Of Auto Recalls

BOSTON (CBS) - The federal government wants to make it easier for drivers to keep track of all those auto recalls.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a new, free online search tool Wednesday to help you find out if your car, SUV or minivan is directly impacted by a recall.

All you have to do is enter your vehicle identification number (VIN) to get a list of all the open recalls affecting your car.

You can find the vehicle identification number by looking at the dashboard on the driver's side of your car, or on the driver's side door on the door post where the door latches when it is closed.

You can find the search tool here.
