MARLBOROUGH (CBS) – A Marlborough man received a startling wake up on Saturday morning as he found a bleeding stranger passed out on a couch in his living room.

Marlborough Police said that at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday a Church Street resident who had fallen asleep in a chair woke up to find a man bleeding nearby. The homeowner alerted his wife, father-in-law and two children to the situation and helped them get out of the house before calling police.

Officers arrived and woke up the passed out man. Timothy Francis Benway, 30, of Framingham, was arrested and charged with entering a building at nighttime and putting a person in fear, along with vandalism.

According to Marlborough Police, Benway entered the home through an attached apartment, where he pushed his way through a locked door.

The responding officer said in his report that it appeared Benway was intoxicated when he entered the home. Benway told police after his arrest that he had no memory of what caused cuts to his legs.

Benway was arraigned Monday and a Marlborough District Court judge set his bail at $500.
