BOSTON (CBS) – By now you’ve probably heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the viral internet trend in honor of ALS patient and former Boston College baseball player Peter Frates.
Frates, 29, was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease about two years ago and since that time he and his friends and family have been raising money and awareness about the disease.
Across the country, ice bucket “challengers” have been dumping buckets of ice water over their heads and posting the videos online in support of loved ones affected by the devastating disease ALS. Former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek has done the challenge, as well as Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins.
And on Wednesday morning, all three on-air members of 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich show partook in the fun and issued the challenge to the one and only Bill Belichick. Through the power of social media, the guys hope within 24 hours that the Patriots head coach accepts, and through his status as a Boston sports legend can help raise even more awareness for the cause.
