Gary LaPlante Named News Director For CBS Boston's WBZ-TV

BOSTON - Gary LaPlante has been named News Director for CBS Boston's WBZ-TV. It was announced today by Mark Lund, President and General Manager for CBS Boston's WBZ-TV and myTV38 (WSBK-TV). LaPlante's first day will be Monday, August 11, 2014.

"Gary is a solid journalist with a proven track record of outstanding news coverage and compelling storytelling," said Lund when making the announcement. "A New England native with deep family roots in the community, Gary knows the region and what resonates with our viewers. He has been instrumental in the development of differentiated content as well as ratings growth in his previous news leadership roles, and I am confident he will have even greater success working with our outstanding WBZ-TV News team."

A multi-award winning journalist with more than 15 years of news leadership and journalism experience, LaPlante joins WBZ-TV News from WFXT-TV where he was Assistant News Director for three years. Before that, he was News Director at WXXA-TV's "Fox 23 News" in Albany, NY. Prior to WXXA-TV, LaPlante was Assistant News Director at ABC affiliate WTEN-TV "News 10" in Albany. He was Executive Producer at WFSB-TV's "Channel 3 Eyewitness News" in Hartford, CT, and before that he was at Boston's WHDH-TV where he started as a news producer and was promoted to Senior Producer supervising all newscasts. He began his distinguished career as a news producer in Providence, RI first at WPRI-TV and later at WLNE-TV.

LaPlante is a graduate of Ithaca College with a B.S. in communications. He resides in Norfolk, MA with his wife and their three children.
