Hyde Park Man Charged In Fatal Dorchester Shooting Of Co-Worker

BOSTON (CBS) – A Hyde Park man has been charged in the killing of a co-worker in Dorchester in February.

Marquis Smith, 23, was held without bail Thursday after being arrested Wednesday for allegedly shooting to death Daniel P. Taylor, 23, on Feb. 23 near the intersection of Boston and Howell streets, the Suffolk District Attorney's Office said.

Boston police arrested Smith at the Boston valet service where he worked with Taylor.

Prosecutors said Smith and Taylor had attended a work-related social event and left together in a car driven by Taylor. They became engaged in an argument while driving through Dorchester, prosecutors said, and Taylor got out and pulled Smith from the passenger side.

The two began fighting and at some point Smith pulled out a gun and shot Taylor repeatedly before fleeing on foot, according to the DA's office.

Smith is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 18.

The district attorney's office said the investigation by Boston police homicide detectives is ongoing and asked anyone with information on the shooting to contact investigators at 617-343-4700.
