Dennard Removed From PUP List, Practices With Patriots

BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard is off the PUP list and back on the practice field.

Dennard, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery, was removed from the active/physically-unable-to-perform list on Tuesday and hit the practice field at Gillette Stadium for the first time during training camp.

With Dennard back in the mix next to offseason additions Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, plus 2013 contributors Kyle Arrington and Logan Ryan, the Patriots have some strong depth at corner. Now, it will be interesting to see how the positional battle plays out throughout camp and the preseason.

Dennard has started 20 games in his first two NFL seasons, and is a prime candidate to fill in for Browner when he serves his four-game suspension at the beginning of the regular season. But Ryan played well as a rookie at the end of last season, starting seven games and leading the team with five interceptions, and could compete with Dennard for that spot.

In 13 regular season games in 2013, Dennard recorded 40 tackles and one interception. He picked off Colts quarterback Andrew Luck twice in the Patriots' 43-22 playoff win over Indianapolis, and has six career interceptions in 27 career games (regular and postseason).
