Medical Examiner Confirms Box Found In Duxbury Contained Human Remains

DUXBURY (CBS) – Authorities are asking for the public's help but keeping relatively quiet about what's known about a box containing human remains found on the side of a road Sunday morning in Duxbury.

The Plymouth District Attorney's Office reported Monday that the state Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the State Police Bomb Squad's determination that the box contained human remains.

State police and the DA's office are investigating the discovery. Authorities said there is no indication the discovery presents any threat to the general public.

Hector Rodriguez and his son Chandler found the box wrapped in cellophane in grassy are on the side of the road near the intersection of Alexander Way and Walker Road Sunday morning.

"After moving it we realized this is very heavy, it smells wrong, something's not right," Chandler Rodriguez said. They called police and a short time later the bomb squad and hazmat teams descended on the neighborhood.

"It's terrible," Hector Rodriguez said. "And you feel for whoever the poor family is that's missing that individual whoever it may be. No one deserves that."

The Medical Examiner's office will do an autopsy to determine the cause of death and the victim's identity.

Investigators ask anyone with information to please contact the state police at 508-923-4205 or the Duxbury police at 781-934-5656.
